LEADERSHIP ROLES

Head Choreographer | Dropouts | Dancepointe Academy

2021 - PRESENT

I joined Dropouts as a dancer competing for Get The Beat Asia. After months of training, the Founder of Dropouts, Mr Taufiq Rosly, recommended me for the role of a Choreographer in Dropouts. I have been conducting weekly classes and maximising growth through my training. It was a challenging journey as I have been used to online zoom training, and it took me a while to adapt to in-class training. I have been very patient and slow in my teaching style due to consistent zoom training, but now, I have to adapt to a fast-paced teaching style for the students. This new teaching style has taught me to become an efficient and adaptive teacher.

Dance Captain | New Revolving Age (NRA) | Ngee Ann Polytechnic

2020 - 2021

I am currently the Dance Captain of NRA. I have conducted events that included online games and activities for our members. Alongside my other Dance Captain, Jia Yi, we have conducted multiple online dance workshops and body conditioning classes on Zoom to a class of over 100 students. We have held an Instagram Live on our official NRA page, to teach a choreography Jia Yi and I created.

Dance in charge | Verve
MAY 2018 – DECEMBER 2018

For Verve 2018, I held the title of Dance In-Charge. I gathered volunteers for this dance performance and choreographed three pieces for Verve alongside my assistant Chang Ting. As the Dance IC, I worked very closely with the stage manager.

Challenges

  • Time management: I had to choreograph for other events concurrently while working on Verve 2018. I managed to endure and push through and successfully led the dance team to perform on stage.

  • Choreography: There was pressure as I had to change a bit of my choreography after hearing feedback. I managed to accept them and reflect them into my dance.

Homecoming performances | Shuqun Secondary School

June 2018 - December 2018

Shuqun Secondary School held two events, “Shuqun Homecoming Carnival” in June and “Shuqun Homecoming Dinner”.

I played the role of a dance leader, gathered available dancers , and created choreographies for both performances. I learned how to confidently lead the team which boosted my leadership and communication skills. I worked alongside the sound crew and the stage managers to ensure that my team performs on time, I gained knowledge about how things are operated backstage and how to ensure an event runs smoothly.

Challenges

  • Time-management: I managed to choreograph two events within a tight timeline.

  • Unforeseen circumstances: Dropout of team members. I had to recruit new members and re-teach the dance within the tight timeline. Some of the dancers were inexperienced, so I have to be patient with them.
