Gentle Bone's You're My Superhero MV | Dance in Charge & Dancer
September 2021 – October 2021

I was scouted by Cross Ratio Entertainment to collate a group of willing background dancers for Gentle Bone’s music video. I handled the communication between the directors, talent managers, choreographers, and my dancers. It was a fun and exciting project for me and my dancers, and we were excited to be featured in a music video. I also observed closely how a filming process is efficiently conducted and learned so much from my observations.

Challenges

  • Personal inexperience: This was the first time doing a celebrity filming and I was unfamiliar with how a music video filming works. Because of this, I was unsure of how to guide my dancers at the venue. There was also no fixed schedule sent to us so I had no gauge of how long we were supposed to be there when to get ready by if there was a break for the dancers. I was worried as I wanted to make sure the dancers were ready before the shoot, and I wanted to ensure the welfare of my dancers.

Dance in-charge | Better With You Project
December 2020 – Ongoing

As part of Benjamin Kheng and Gentle Bone's new EP project, I was contacted by Cross Ratio Entertainment to choreograph their new single "Better With You". This one-minute choreography will be filmed as a dance concept video as part of their guerrilla marketing strategy. Along with my partner Jia Yi, we had to scout for 22 available dancers for this project. We had three total dance practices to teach the choreography before the filming day. I had to liaise with the filming team to coordinate and allocate the dancers to different filming sites.

Challenges

  • Administrative matters: Along with choreographing and teaching. I had to do a lot of administrative work to help the filming team. E.g: Collating dancers' day and timing availabilities and sorting them out to the different group locations. I managed to use Microsoft Excel to organise my data.

Background Dancer | TGIF Music Station: SCCC X YES 933
December 2020 – 15 January 2021

I was contacted by Cross Ratio Entertainment to participate in Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre's RE:MIX FestivaL 2021 as a background dancer for various Singaporean artists. I managed to choreograph seven songs alongside three other members and worked with the stage manager, director, band, and local artists. It was a nervous experience as it was a live performance broadcasted on television. All in all, I gained a better insight into how a full festival performance is run.

Challenges

  • Live stream: The fact that the whole event was a live stream event was a challenge because the whole experience will be different from a physical festival. There were strict timing constraints and all of us had to be earlier or on time. This developed my team's communication and coordination skills.

  • Last-minute changes: There was an instance where a song was rearranged on the spot during the rehearsal. My dancers and I had to adapt to this new musical arrangement and translate it into our dance. This challenged my critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
